GREGG ALLMAN ABOUT HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH CHER

Posted by: Twins 29.04.2012

In an excerpt from his new memoir published in the May 10th issue of Rolling Stone, Gregg Allman tells of surviving tragedy, heroin and a tumultuous relationship with Cher. In this preview, Allman describes his first, terrible date with the singer.
She smelled like I would imagine a mermaid would smell – I've never smelled it since, and I'll never forget it. It was January 1975, and I was playing a solo show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. After the show, my buddy Chank ran up to me, going, "Guess who's here?"
"Who?" I asked.
"I want you to just ease over that railing and look to your right."
There she was, man: Cher. I couldn't believe how beautiful she was. I got my guitar and headed down toward her. Cher showed up with David Geffen as her date. I had met Geffen on many occasions before, but I didn't acknowledge him at all – or anyone else, for that matter. I was so rude; I didn't say hello or nothing at all, because I was so blinded by her.
I was walking by, and she was down on the floor looking for something. She looked up and said, "Oh, I lost my earring." Then she said, "Here's my number – call me."
The next day, I asked her out to dinner. I went to her house in a limousine, and when she came out, she said, "Fuck that funeral car," and handed me the keys to her blue Ferrari. We went to a Moroccan restaurant on Sunset, and we sat there, eating with our hands with the sitars playing. She didn't have shit to say to me, and I didn't have shit to say to her. What's the topic of conversation? It certainly ain't singing.
I said to her, "I've got a friend who lives up in the Hills, and his wife is Judy Carne." Cher knew Judy, who used to be on Laugh-In, from years before, but she didn't realize that Judy was into heroin. We got up to Judy's house, and I had just a little taste of doojee. I nodded out in the bathroom for 20 minutes or so, while Cher was out in the living room with Judy, who's also nodding out. I came out of there and asked her, "OK, toots, what else would you like to do?"
"I want to get the fuck out of here as fast as I can," she said.
I called her the next day and said, "Wait, before you say anything – that was possibly the worst fucking date in the history of mankind. We might be ready for the Guinness Book of World Records." She agreed with me, so I said, "Well, listen, seeing how it was so bad, why don't we try it again, because it can only go better this time?"
We went dancing. I don't know how to dance, but I got drunk enough to where I did. I danced my ass off. This is when disco was just taking off, so we did some dirty dancing. She had one drink, while I had my 21, of course. When we got back to her place, she took me out to her rose garden, and all the roses were just starting to bloom.

CHER SELLS KEY TO ADELAIDE ON EBAY FOR $92,500

Posted by: Chris-q 26.04.2012

Cher has auctioned off a key to the city of Adelaide that was presented to her by the Lord Mayor at the 1990 Grand Prix. The controversial ebay auction ended today with the item receiving 146 bids and being sold for US$95,900.00.
The item description on ebay read: “Obtained directly from legendary award winning supterstar Cher! A very unique item from Cher’s own personal collection!
“This engraved plaque and brass key to the city of Adelaide Australia was presented to Cher in November 1990 Includes original box Hand-written sticky note on box: “Mementos” A one-of-a-kind collectible for Cher fans! Picked up directly from her Malibu home! Good Luck! Includes Certificate of Authenticity!!”
Cher’s decision to sell the item has copped a lot of criticism from some Australians, and the person enlisted to sell the item addressed the concerns on the auction listing page:
“Hello… I am Cher’s consignor. First of all I am in shock at the way this is going… but I’m happy for the good that will come out of this sale as the money is raised for charity. But, I am saddened that many Australians are upset about this. I have had so many questions as to why this item is being sold. I have had a lot of positive comments and some negative comments. Not too long ago I sold another key for her from another city and not one negative comment. But in answer to the questions all I can say is… Cher receives many awards and gifts from all over the world. And she is always humbled and touched by these gracious gestures. At certain times she goes through her huge collection and decides to share many of these special treasures with her fans, with all the proceeds going to Cher’s Charitable Foundation. Please know that the proceeds for this auction and everything on Authentic_Cher are helping people all over the world through Cher’s charitable and humanitarian endeavors. I think the city of Adelaide should be proud of what this plaque & key are doing for those in need or suffering. Cher is incredible, kind and generous and in no way meant to slight the people of Adelaide. Thank you for your understanding. Sincerest regards, Linda.”
However, according to channelnewsasia, Cher was unaware the key was being sold and is “upset and trying to get to the bottom of it.”

CHER MAKES SURPRISE APPEARANCE AT GLAAD AWARDS IN LA

Posted by: Twins 22.04.2012

US Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack had already given a very moving tribute to stepson Chaz Bono at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday (21 April).
She talked about how Chaz 'meant the world' to his dad, the late Sonny Bono, who she said was 'watching from heaven.'
'Chaz had the courage to follow his heart and his convictions and that's what true leaders do,' Bono Mack said.
Then, after a video presentation about Chaz, a woman wearing a dramatic afro wig a wig came onto the stage unannounced.
It was Cher.

The crowd inside the ballroom at the Westin Bonaventure in downtown Los Angeles went nuts.
'I don’t have anything prepared,' she said. 'I am so nervous because my pronouns for my child just jump all over the f*cking place.'
Chaz was born Chastity Bono, the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, and made frequent appearances on her parents CBS variety show in the 70s. Bono initially came out as a lesbian in the mid-90s then announced in 2008 that he would be undergoing female to male gender transition.
Cher did indeed mix her pronouns up a few times calling the child who was the female Chastity to her for 40 years 'she' on a few occasions while on the stage then quickly caught herself.
'I think everyone knows how freaked out I was to find out he was gay,' Cher told the crowd. 'This [becoming a man] is one step to go past. ... And then you go, 'Oh, those were the good old days.'
Getting serious, Cher said of her child: 'I’m here because Chaz has the most courage of almost anyone I know.'
Bono took the stage to accept the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality.
'This truly means so much to me,' Bono said. 'Of every organization out there, and there are a lot of them, I don’t think any of them do more to affect change on a cultural level than GLAAD.'
Bono also won the outstanding documentary prize for Becoming Chaz, a film which chronicled his journey from female to male.

15 MOST ENDURING DIVAS IN POP MUSIC

Posted by: Twins 14.04.2012

The best kept secret in the music industry is that pop divas, like fine wines and British actors, only get better with age. So far this year we’ve seen Madonna score her eighth Billboard chart-topping album (however short-lived), Jennifer Lopez storm the iTunes chart with “Dance Again” and the re-emergence of Gwen Stefani as the voice of No Doubt. With new albums from Shania Twain, Cher and Kylie Minogue on the way, 2012 is shaping up to be the year when pop’s leading ladies prove that 40 really is the new 20.

To celebrate the phenomenon, Idolator.com has put together a list of our top 15 timeless divas — women of a certain vintage who remain relevant, influential and important to music fans of all ages. For your favorite singer to qualify, she just had to be born prior to 1972, have an iconic career and still practice pop. Hence no Barbra Streisand or Reba McEntire. Rankings are based on chart stats, record sales, pop culture status and recent success.

#6. Cher. What more can you say about this woman? She’s done it all and then some. Perhaps her biggest achievement is the fact that the world is still curious to see what she does next. While divas half her age have been banished to the wilderness of the adult contemporary market, the Burlesque star remains a pop culture phenomenon. When not beefing with the likes of Nicki Minaj on Twitter, Cher is busy putting the finishing touches on her long-postponed Lady Gaga duet and plotting her September world tour.

Posted by: Chris-q 13.04.2012

TCM The Essentials asked Drew Barrymore for her favorite screen sirens of all time. She chose Julie Christie, Faye Dunaway, Jane Fonda, Annette Bening and Cher.

“She’s strong and comedic and incredibly brave, but shows vulnerability. I think she’s epitome of rock & roll,” says Barrymore, citing Silkwood, Moonstruck, Mask and The Witches of Eastwick as some of her favorite Cher performances.
