CHER CHARMS IN NEW YORK WITH EARLY STOP DURING PRIDE WEEK

Posted by: Chris-q 28.06.2013

When Cher rolled up to the Marquee club in Manhattan in a stretch limo at 1:48 this morning, a throng of costumed fans were ready: From the sidewalk, iPhones captured the singer's entrance to the Chelsea nightspot, many having waited since late yesterday afternoon, dressed in drag and chain-smoking behind elaborate masks and makeup. Cab drivers who stopped to crane their necks were ordered to keep moving.
A day after the Supreme Court dumped the federal Defense of Marriage Act and declined to reinstate a ban on same-sex marriage in California, Cher flew to New York to tease this weekend's Pride performance, but not by singing – she didn't utter a note. Instead, the LGBT ally was a spectator at the Chelsea venue, which thumped and pulsated with a horde of Cher lookalikes dancing to a medley of her hits, including "Believe," "I Got You Babe" and her version of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." She watched from Marquee's upper level, swaying and clapping and singing along. She wore a gold sequined top and a crown that sparkled through the venue's purple lighting and smoke-machine haze.

An hour after she arrived, Cher descended the stairs to thank her several hundred supporters from the stage. "I've had ups and downs in my career, and you guys have never left me," she told the crowd, which exploded with applause. "You guys have always been there."
Her words seemed to indirectly underscore LGBT resilience in the face of increased homophobic-driven violence in New York, where the police commissioner last month called the murder of a gay man in the West Village a hate crime. Such targeted attacks have doubled since this time last year.
After speaking for less than two minutes, her new dance single, "Woman's World," throbbed from the loudspeakers. Cher's first album in more than a decade will follow later this year.
As the song played, she pushed through the front door and a bouncer blocked it, refusing to let anyone else exit for several minutes. It was one minute before 3 a.m. Outside, after halting traffic on 10th Avenue, the limo carrying the singer sped uptown. Cher's NYC Pride performance Sunday at the Dance on the Pier benefit coincides with the two-year anniversary of New York's legalization of same-sex marriage.

CHER ON "WATCH WHAT HAPPENS LIVE"

Posted by: Twins 28.06.2013

When it comes to Cher's past lovers, Tom Cruise ranks among the top in her list.
The star stopped by Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live" on Thursday, where she dished on dating the actor in the 80s.
Host Andy Cohen asked Cher who her best past lover was, something she had trouble pinpointing.
"A lot of them kind of came in first," she said with a smile. "I've had just the greatest lovers ever."
"Where does Tom Cruise rank on that list?" Andy asked.
"He was in the top five," Cher admitted.

The 67-year-old said her past lovers list is short and sweet.
"It's not a long list, just a good list," the "Woman's World" singer said.
"It was pretty hot and heavy for a little minute," she said of time with Tom. "He's also a great guy. The person I knew was a great, loveable guy."
Andy also asked Cher if she's ever been with a woman.
"Oh God, who hasn't? Yeah," Cher said, and then put it into perspective with the rest of her extensive life events. "I stole a horse when I was 13, you know, so why wouldn't I?"
As for her current love life, Cher explained that she likes to keep it very private.
"The moment anyone knows you have a boyfriend, you don't have a boyfriend because it's just too hard. People don't want to be hounded to death," she added.

CHER ATTENDS THE VOICE 4 SEASON PRESS ROOM

Posted by: Chris-q 19.06.2013

The 67-year-old singer who has spent most of her life in the spotlight offered this advice to young artists on navigating the world of paparazzi attention: “You’re screwed. That’s my advice.”
“You don’t deal with it. You just try to get a place where no one can find you and that’s your little sanctuary,” continued the “Believe” singer in an interview Tuesday. “I have a fabulous house that I love and it’s my sanctuary.”
Looking ever the rock star in leather and studs, Cher took the stage Tuesday for the season finale of NBC’s “The Voice.” She performed “Woman’s World,” the first single off her upcoming album of the same name — her 26th album since she began recording in the 1960s.
Cher said reality singing competitions are simply a modern incarnation of classic star-makers like “The Ed Sullivan Show” and “Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts.”
“It’s just another vehicle, you know what I mean? Talent is talent,” she said on the red carpet following the finale which crowned 16-year-old country singer Danielle Bradbery the winner.

The young powerhouse from Blake Shelton’s team beat out indie rocker Michelle Chamuel and country duo the Swon Brothers for the season four title.
Though Cher has topped the Billboard pop charts throughout the last six decades, she credits luck, not necessarily talent, for her incredible staying power.
“If you have an idea, you tell me because I haven’t got a clue,” she said of her secret to career longevity. “I believe that luck has a lot to do with it. There are lots of people who are more talented or whatever, but somehow this has been my path. So this is what I’m doing.”

CHER DEBUTS "WOMAN'S WORLD" ON THE VOICE

Posted by: Twins 19.06.2013

It's a Woman's World -- Cher's, to be exact. The 67-year-old singer made her live TV return for the Tuesday, June 18 season 4 finale of The Voice. Debuting her new single "Woman's World" -- and singing on live TV for the first time since 2003 -- the legendary star donned a typically wacky, sexy look that featured a purple faux-hawk wig and turban-like headband, a leather-and-mesh top and suspenders.
The Oscar winner told Us Weekly after the show that she never thought she'd appear on the NBC smash. "I never thought I'd be asked!" she admitted. "'Oh yeah Cher, you just turned 67. How about coming on The Voice?'"

The Moonstruck star wasn't sure how to explain her look for the night.
"It just is what it is, I don't know! I'm at kind of a Luxe Punk thing right now . . . hair and makeup and clothes are expressions of who you are and it's fun to do. And it doesn't mean anything really, it's pretty superficial but it's fun, you know?"
As for her amazingly fit body? "I was a tomboy at five years old and I have never stopped," the mother of two explained. "I played baseball, I never stopped moving. I just never stopped moving. I must say, I really enjoy it. I really have a great trainer and we have fun and we just did like, I don't know, 5,000 miles watching Downton Abbey"!
And Voice fans may be seeing more of Cher in the future, too: "They have the little mentor-coaches for a week or something like that and I think that would be fun," Cher told Us. "I'd enjoy that."

CHER - LIVE FROM BACKSTAGE AT THE VOICE

Posted by: Chris-q 19.06.2013

Cher will drop her new record “Closer to the Truth” later this year on Sept. 24, but unfortunately it won’t include her duet with Lady Gaga.
“I did a song with Gaga and I think it's brilliant and I thought her performance was great but she doesn't like it,” the 67-year-old artist told Mark Steines during “Cher's Livestream Backstage At ‘The Voice’” interview. “So, I’ll play it for friends."
Other artists who worked on “Closer to the Truth” include the Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears (he appears on the track “Take It Like A Man”) and Pink, who wrote the tune “Lie To Me,” which was described as “a really sad song.”
Even though we won’t hear Mother Monster on Cher’s new record, there is still plenty to get excited about, as it sounds like the icon experimented and was a risk-taker this time around on her latest offering.
"I did a couple things on this album, ventured into places that I haven't gone and I really enjoyed that," Cher explained to Billboard. "I took some chances on this album and when it turned out to be good, I was pleased."
Another track that appears on “Closer to the Truth” is a tune about the Sept. 11 attacks. It’s not the first time Cher has released a song on the topic.
Asked by Steines what her favourite tune from her own catalogue is, the songstress revealed that it’s the 2002 hit “Song for the Lonely,” which was written as a tribute to 9/11 victims.
“I thought ‘Song for the Lonely’ was a great song [and] I thought it was going to be a hit song,” she said during her livestream interview. “I don’t ever listen to my albums [but] ‘Song for the Lonely,’ that’s one of my favourite songs. There’s a song on [‘Closer to the Truth’] about 9/11 called ‘Sirens’ … it’s a really beautiful song. ”
